On Saturday, March 2, 2013, Focus on Tomorrow launched the Hi Frequency internship program at its first fundraiser in Chicago. Sponsored by Greenhouse Loft, Kendall College and Windy City Distribution, the Hi Frequency Fundraiser drew an enthusiastic group of supporters in a new market. FOT directors Will Barroso, Miguel Molina and Sam Zackowitz introduced the organization’s inaugural class of talented and ambitious high school students hoping to develop careers in the media industry. On stage, Will introduced Focus on Tomorrow to the room filled with Chicagoans and Sam described the program that the interns would be participating in.
The crowd was treated to hors d’oeuvres, prepared onsite by Chef Christopher Koetke of Kendall College and host of Let’s Dish, a Live Well Network program. Chris was assisted by some of his Kendall College students, who were gracious enough to volunteer their time, and the hors d’oeuvres and beverages were distributed by Fig Catering, an invaluable partner of Focus on Tomorrow.
The evening’s highlight was the keynote speaker, ABC 7 Entertainment Reporter, Janet Davies. While on stage, Janet reflected on her 30 years in the television industry and spoke directly to the FOT interns. She offered them advice on how to achieve their dreams and how to adapt to the evolving industry.
The evening concluded with a raffle and the awarding of an array of silent auction items. The success of the evening contributed to the growth of the organization’s program, ensuring that Focus on Tomorrow gets one step closer to fulfilling its mission.
