On Thursday, September 13, 2012, Focus on Tomorrow treated Braddock students to the Save the Arts Benefit Concert Hosted by CBS4 Meteorologist, Lissette Gonzalez. The event was a jovial occasion as Gonzalez introduced fellow Braddock alumni DJ Zog of Power 96 & Garcia, two of the afternoon’s performers. While describing her own high school experience at Braddock, Gonzalez, who at one point in her career signed a record contract with RCA, surprised the audience with a few verses of her own. The afternoon was headlined by Mayday, a local hip-hop act with an EP and an album on the Billboard Charts. Students celebrated the event by rushing the stage and dancing along to the music. At the end of the day one lucky student won an iPad2, courtesy of Focus on Tomorrow and Best Buy.
This event would not have been possible if it weren’t for the free performances of the artists. Focus on Tomorrow would also like to thank True Audio for donating the show’s sound equipment. Finally, this event could not have taken place without the support of Braddock’s administration team, especially Assistant Principal Edward Medina, who has embraced Focus on Tomorrow’s mission since its inception.
